Secretary of State Candidate Rutherford

Urges Caution for Investors

Pontiac, IL – State Senator Dan Rutherford, Republican candidate for Secretary of State, is asking investors in Illinois to be aware of fraud and to take precautions whenever investing their hard-earned dollars.

“You can hardly plan any kind of retirement or personal savings these days without investing in various funds, stocks or ventures, all of which sell themselves as anything from rock solid, low risk investments to high risk, high reward ‘opportunity of the century!’,” said Rutherford.  “Some of these investing opportunities are exactly what they claim.  Unfortunately, there are those that attempt to make an easy buck off of inexperienced or uneducated investors.”

Sen. Rutherford is urging any investors with questions about how to invest or who want to learn more about the do’s and don’ts and scams seen both in Illinois and across the country should visit websites for both the Securities Department of the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office (1-800-628-7937) and the Federal Citizen Information Center (1-888-878-3256), a division of the U.S. General Services Administration:  http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/scamsdesc.htm

“Investing can be an exciting and rewarding experience,” Rutherford added.  “I just want to make sure Illinoisans are fully educated before they expose themselves to not only the good individuals and companies in the marketplace but also the undesirables that are in the business of preying on vulnerable investors.  Check them out thoroughly before investing.  Caution is common sense, but it could also save you your entire life savings.”
