April 2005
After
a bit of a break, back on the road for Building & Trades gathering, with stops
in Downers Grove, Danville, Chicago, Warrensburg, Woodridge…
And of
course, Lincoln Day Dinners: Elgin Township, the Southern Most as well as
Monroe, Livingston, St. Clair, Lake counties,…
Gas
price in Springfield was $2.25 and the Odometer rolled to 155,000.
Each
new General Assembly (every two years) I invite the new members of the
Legislature to tour the Pontiac and Dwight Correctional Centers. Corrections is
a major part of the budget, criminal law action and public safety. It is
important that policy makers get a first hand view of what it is really all
about. This year was the 7th tour and I am convinced my legislative
colleagues now have a better understanding of what the staff in a prison has to
deal with. Though the visit was in Livingston County (because of having both a
male & female maximum security facilities) the tour was representative of what
staff in Vandalia, Pinckneyville, Danville, Dixon, East Moline, Jacksonville,
Lincoln, Murphysboro, Shawnee and the other facilities do.

The
new Abraham Lincoln Library was dedicated. Eileen Byrne of WLS asked me to
co-host her show broadcast live from a mobile unit they brought to Springfield.
I really enjoy working with her and our first guest was my friend Speaker Denny
Hastert.

The President was
in and I got a few good photos!!
