Dan's Diary

August 2005

Odometer turned 175,000 on the way to Mt. Vernon Sweetcorn and Watermelon Parade and the Centralia Balloon Fest, a total of 500 miles in one day.

While on the Scott and Colleen morning radio show (WJBC Bloomington), Dan declared that he would be officially announcing his intentions to run for Secretary of State shortly after Labor Day. Following the radio show, Associated Press picked up the story and extensive statewide coverage followed.

"I asked myself, 'What is it you really want to do, Dan'' My answer was,
'It's secretary of state,' " Rutherford said. "I think you need to go
where your heart is."

Today was a road trip galore; Travis McGlasson was the Road Warrior (meaning the guy behind the wheel) for the day. After being in the State Fair Parade with Rep. Rich Brauer and his wife Nessa the night before, we headed South East. Lisa Stephens (Greenville) joined for most of the 935 mile trip. We went to Shelbyville, did radio from the car in Effingham, with stops in Jasper, Crawford, Lawrence, Richland, Clay, Wayne, Edwards, and Wabash Counties (See photo gallery). Gas in Newton was $2.399 per gallon

A special thank you to the friends in Morgan County who represented Dan in the South Jacksonville parade.

This was a really busy month, between travel and radio-TV-Newspaper, but I love it. I do appreciate Comcast allowing me to share what my thoughts are on their outlets. Had the opportunity to once again be on the Paul Lisnek Political Update Show.

DuQuoin State Fair Parade was hot, but enthusiastic response. Great support from friends in Perry, Jackson, Williamson and surrounding counties. Walk in parade with collegues Sen. Dave Luchtefeld and Rep. Mike Bost made one feel real welcome! Special thanks to Shawn for all the extra help!!

At the end of the month, gas went to $3.10.
