Mr. White's daughter, Glenna White-Jones, whose salary with the secretary of state has almost tripled since daddy took office in 1999….She makes $112,512 a year a bit more than the $39,267 she made under Mr. Ryan in 1998.

What's good for the boss is good for the boss' No. 1. Mr. White’s chief of staff, Thomas Benigno’s wife now makes about $2,000 a month as a part-time contractual employee.

Familiar faces;

At least to Jesse White; pop up on secretary of state's payroll

As it turned out, last week's column just scratched the surface.

There's no need for family feuds here, because everyone's making a buck. Even Chicago's famed Roti clan; known for having every odd nephew and in-law on the city payroll; might be able to learn a few tricks.

That's not all……

Who knows what else is going on?

Grilling the sexes on the GOP bus - Beacon News

Being on the road for a week with the group and then continuing to travel the state, I still need to get the haircut. While in Bellville, I slipped off to get a trim at Great Clips.

The Pontiac Bonneville started the trip to Republican Day at the State Fair with 228,545 miles. She came on the road as a tail car with our yard signs and emery boards to give out along the way. No doubt the Pontiac Bonneville will need her regular 3,000 mile oil change when we get back home.

Send Me your Bumper Sticker Pictures

"Bumper stickers are popping up all over. I was even told by someone in Springfield that they are seeing them all over the place! Send me the photo of your sticker displayed and I will post it (we want the license plate number blocked so the present SOS cannot track you down)."

To have a bumper sticker mailed to you, just e mail Barb@DanRutherford.org and tell her how many you would like…….they are really great for building ID!

State Sen. Dan Rutherford, left, a candidate for Illinois secretary of state, speaks with fellow statewide Republican candidate Stewart Umholtz at the opening of the Livingston County Republican headquarters Sunday. Umholtz, running for attorney general, was the featured speaker at the event.

A bit sweaty, but cooling off at Representative Ron and Lisa Stephens beautiful home after the parade

Pontiac Bonneville

She starts the month with 225,800 miles. Gas varies around $3.05 per gallon, loves ethanol, have 3,000 mile regular oil change and keep the highway miles active!

My Commitment to the Drivers of Illinois

My mom and dad owned a pizza restaurant for 17 years and I started waiting tables there in third grade. I grew up knowing that good service was essential; that is how my family made a living. As an adult I joined the ServiceMaster Company, one of the largest service companies in the world, and I recently celebrated 20 years with them.

I believe, think, act and lead my life with the attitude that good service is what we are to deliver and should expect to receive. In my opinion, that goes for government also.

The largest ‘retail’ operation in Illinois government is the office of Secretary of State. They touch more ‘customers’, on an annual basis, than any other agency. It is a service business and I do not believe it is performing well.

I am running for Secretary of State because I believe, in my heart, I can do a better job managing the operation. I am running to make a difference, to show that government services can be responsive and that the citizens of Illinois should be treated as valued customers.

Last month I announced my Service Commitment!

I went back on the Asian Chronicle USA show with Lourdes Mon, broadcast on Comcast in the Chicago metro market. The interest and support from the Asian community has been tremendous…Indian, Filipino, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Pakistani. There interest is the same as I hear in all parts off the state: “give good customer service and fix the problems!”  Sounds fair to me.

Sean Planning

Planning Session with Sean in the South Suburbs was done at a great little place called Nino’s Pizza. Walking the parade in the rain in Oswego helps work off the calories.

I do a lot of parades; really enjoy them…shake hands, wave and kiss a few babies. Generally it goes well……but, there are those days. AND there is nothing like a mother’s touch!

Getting around the state

Illinois is a big state and I am fortunate to have friends help out on the distant travels with their private planes and helicopters. Ken and Bob land the helicopter at my home when we use it; Jeff and Margaret have a wonderful pressurized cabin plane to get me to our DC fundraiser. Ken, Bill, Scott and others volunteer their planes and piloting, as well.
