Illinois is broke. As a state constitutional officer, I am making a rare request of the General Assembly: Cut my budget.

Illinois is not just out of money—even if all assets including cash, investments and property were liquidated and auctioned, it still would carry more than $37 billion of debt. By this measurement, we are the deepest in debt of all 50 states. (Read More)
