February 2007

Photos at the top and bottom of this Diary page are of family
and friends from around Illinois. There is a different set each month.
Please look for your picture or those of an acquaintance. If you have a
photo to submit, please send it to me!

Future Leader
Daniel Petty is the grandson
of an active Republican in Sangamon County. I met him when he joined my
table at the Sangamon County Lincoln Day lunch.
He is taking 15
hours at SIUE, a political science major and speech communication minor.
Dan is set to graduate May 2008 and might finish a semester early.
The
future of Illinois government is bright, knowing that young people like
Daniel Petty are interested in politics!

I have done a number of Comcast TV interviews, which
air in the Chicagoland area, for their Newsmakers series. I have taped
with both Lisa Aprati and Paul Lisnek, both veteran anchors. To learn

Pontiac
Bonneville
February 18th was a great day for the Pontiac
Bonneville. She hit the 250,000 mile mark! She is still going
strong and she loves the open road!

Happy Birthday
Please join me in
wishing my Senate colleagues a Happy Birthday: Sen. John Millner,
February 1 and Sen. Bill Peterson, February 2. You can send a card care
of: Illinois Senate, State Capitol, Springfield, IL 62706

Karl Rove and Dan at
Sangamon Lincoln Day Lunch
For Lincoln's Birthday, I attended the Sangamon County Lincoln Day Lunch. Great attendance and the had Karl Rove as the speaker. I was asked to make a few remarks and I particularly thanked Sangamon County for their support in the election, it is one of the counties we carried!!!!

Keep the Diary?
I am going back and forth about continuing the Diary on my political website. It takes work from me and from my nephew, Kaleb, who does all the postings. During the heat of a campaign it was full of activities, but with the Legislative Session reconvening, there are not as many speeches and the like I am attending.
I started the Diary in 2005 and each month since then is still available to go back and look on. Each month we have a new set of photos which frame the upper and lower of the page. Each month I let you know the miles on the Pontiac Bonneville and a bit of happenings.
What do you think? I really want to hear from you. If we update the Diary at least once a week, would you be interested in seeing it continue? I want to know that you are interested and your input.

Wow,
thanks....in less that six hours after posting the question
about continuing with the Diary or not I had gotten a few replies, all
positive about keeping Diary. I am interested in hearing from others.
Thank you for taking the time and letting me know.

Lincoln Day Dinner
I will be the keynote speaker for the Kane County Dundee Township Lincoln/Reagan Day dinner on February 24, 2007 at 6:00pm. Randall Oaks Gold Course in West Dundee.
There is a tomorrow
2006 may not have been a good
year for Republicans across the nation and in Illinois, but
there are bright spots and our campaign for Secretary of State
has some of them. Highlighting the inefficiencies of a service
office and taking a bold stand on the inappropriateness of
nepotism in state government, in addition to, high level
Directors being convicted of felonies by the Federal
Government shows that even a Goliath has chinks in his armor.
Hard work does pay off!
There is a tomorrow!

Pontiac
Bonneville
The Pontiac Bonneville started out the month with 248,860
miles on her. She is still running good despite the cold
weather and snow. She loves ethanol and is happy to see gas
prices going down!

Fundraising
Fund raising has slowed
down, as one would expect it to after and election. We
managed our resources well and we spent over $2 million on
the run for SoS. I can't believe we were able to raise it
(there are so many good friends that help out....thank you).
I do need your help now, though. Even if not in a direct
campaign, the political operations are still active; phone
lines, computers....and travel to Political functions around
the state to give speeches and help candidates. I ask for
your help to recruit Roundtable members and friends to
participate in the fundraising events scheduled (Roundtable
members get Complimentary tickets to the Watseka, Champaign
and Pontiac events....plus others not yet scheduled).

Ronald
Reagan

As you may know, in
1980 at the age of 24, I joined on the ground floor of Ronald
Reagan’s campaign for President by coordinating my
Congressional District in the contested Republican Primary for
him. After the GOP Primary that year, I assumed the lead role
of Executive Director for Ronald Reagan’s campaign in
Illinois.
I truly appreciated
Ronald Reagan, having had the chance to get to be around him.
He had such an impact on the world.
In order to help us
remember him, I am posting a quote from the “Great
Communicator” each month on my Diary page. If you have a
favorite quote or photo of Ronald Reagan, send it to me at
DanRutherford@DanRutherford.org
and I will post it.
