January 2006

Just got back from a multi day trip around Illinois. Started on a Monday
(the Senate was not in Session this week) and went to Rosemont, Chicago,
Northbrook, back to Pontiac, Springfield, Jacksonville, Quincy,
Macomb,Bushnell, Galesburg, Moline, Geneseo, Princeton & LaSalle. All in
five days; 1,110 miles. Travis was the Road Warrior for most of the trip.
Gosh...this is fun!

The Legislature convened, but keeping on the road in between Sessions. I
spoke at Sen. Carol Pankau’s fundraiser (she is running for Comptroller),
attended an Alzheimer’s fundraiser in Peoria and the Martin Luther King
luncheon, Cook County GOP Convention, & a great dinner with the leadership
of the Korean/American community in Chicago. Was with the Sangamon County
YR’s for the Debate Watching Party and had a fantastic fundraiser in Quincy.

I got a call in my car from Cheri at the office saying the White House had
just phoned and wanted to know if I would like to meet the President at the
airport when he arrived on Air Force One in Chicago. When I returned the
call I learned that it was going to be a small group, including Speaker
Denny Hastert and US Senator Dick Durbin. Being an adult and an elected
official, having worked for and been around Ronald Reagan, having met George
H.W. Bush and President George W. Bush a few times, I am still in awe at the
office of President of the United States. The official White House photos
are coming, but I took a few of my own.

The new campaign posters are in. They are
made of paper and can be disposed of or recycled after use, if they are not
in good shape. The posters are great for multiple displays at political
functions, GOP Headquarters and for decorating fair tents and booths. We
have plenty, so let us know how many you will use.
E mail Barb with the
quantity of each poster.

'Rutherford for
Secretary of State' bumper stickers are popping up all over Illinois. Send
me the photo of your sticker displayed and I will post it (we want the
license plate number blocked so the present SOS cannot track you down).
This photo is from Jim in
Wheaton and you can tell he is Proud American, a Proud Marine, a Proud
Republican and a Proud Dan Fan.
