It was a beautiful
sunny Sunday morning. After all the rain everything was very green and the
creek was full. These photo are from the second floor balcony off of my
bedroom. With a view like this, you know that I do not mind working from
home on occasion!
I read this article about ties and
started to think about how many ties I have. I never even thought about
not wearing a tie when the Legislature is in Session, or when I go to an
event that a tie would be appropriate. Maybe I am old fashioned......or
may be I am a fashion setter!!
Cook County
GOP Fundraiser
The Cook County Republican Party held their annual fundraiser in Chicago
this month. Good food, good networking, good people, it was truly an
enjoyable evening.
McLean
County Lincoln Day Dinner
My
friends from McLean County asked me to speak at their annual Lincoln Day
Dinner. Governor Tim Pawlenty came all of the way from Minnesota to be
the keynote speaker for the evening. It was interesting to listen to
Governor Pawlenty and talk with him afterwards.
GOP State
Convention
I
had the opportunity to speak at the GOP State Convention on Friday, June
6th. It was good to see a lot of my friends from around the state.
Considering the energy in the crowd, I am optimistic about the future of the
republican party.
Planting
Trees
Over 10 years ago I started a reforestation project at my home. Since
then I have planted over 13,000 trees and shrubs on my property. Earlier
this month my nephew Kaleb and my brother-in-law Fred came out and helped me
plant 1,900 more, bringing the total to just less then 15,000 trees and
shrubs in all. Here are a couple of picture from that day.
Goose Crossing
While I was driving
home one evening I saw these adult geese with their teenagers crossing the
road. They were only in the open for a minute or two, then as quickly as
they came they disappeared in the tall grass again. They were heading down
to the creek to cool off and to find some supper.
Extended Brazil Family Visits Pontiac
Luiz & Regina Laraya from Brazil recently
visited our family in Pontiac.
Luiz was my sister Debi's brother while she spent a summer in South America
with his family as an exchange student in 1973.

Out for dinner with our extended family from Brazil. Lots of fun with
English/Portuguese conversation!
Having fun catching up on the past at Sis' house.
Update from
Governor Mitt Romney
I recently got an email from Gov. Romney. He
wanted to update me on what’s been happening since the campaign ended and
let me know about his latest venture.
First, Gov. Romney and his
wife Ann are expecting three new grandchildren. That will give them a total
of 14! He said “There’s nothing like the love of our growing family to
remind us of the truly important things in life.” I certainly agree with
that.
The Governor has been
traveling the country again, campaigning for John McCain and appearing as a
surrogate on his behalf. He has already visited Pennsylvania, Nevada, and
Maine with more trips scheduled to Oregon, Colorado, and Texas. Next week he
is hosting President Bush at his home in Utah for a Victory ’08 fundraiser
to benefit the national ticket.
Governor Romney also has a
new organization that will hopefully make a difference in preparing our
nation to meet the challenges of the future, the Free and Strong America
PAC.
The goal of Free and Strong
America PAC is to support officeholders and candidates who are dedicated to
promoting public policies that will strengthen America at this critical time
in our history. If you would like to learn more about the organization and
the candidates they are supporting visit the website at
FreeStrongAmerica.com .
It was good to hear from Governor Romney. He
is a man I respect a great deal. It is good to have him back in the fight,
and I know he is enjoying it as well!
May
Diary
My Birthday was in May and my sister, Debi, wrote a
really good letter about me (at least I thought it was a good letter).
It was posted in the May
Diary and is much more detailed than the one she US postal
mailed. If you haven't read it, do check it out.
Pontiac Bonneville
The faithful
Bonneville now has 295,800 miles on her. She is running great and loves
the open road, but is not happy with the high gas prices. In Pontiac the
price is now $3.95 a gallon!
