GOP goop

A Romney report: Sneed is told state Sen. Dan Rutherford (R-Chenoa) flew to Boston on Wednesday night to meet with GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

Translation: Romney, who has been endorsed by former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, is looking for someone to head up his campaign in Illinois. Could this mean the search is over? Sneed bets . . . yup.

Pontiac Bonneville on the road

She starts May with 254,670 miles. Probably 95% is highway miles. Almost all of the travel is now to and from Springfield. We will be cranking up the odometer this summer. Oil change every 3,000 miles and ethanol at the pump. The illumination of the radio dial does not work, so I kind of 'search and guess' when it comes time to tune in . That experience has given me a taste of new stations!

GOP Debate

I watched the first GOP debate last night. Without getting into winners and losers, because who can really tell....I thought the top three, Giuliani, McCain and Romney, stayed the top three. Rudy was great with the impromptu question on the difference between a Shiite and a Sunni, Sen. McCain had the best one liner with regards to Bin Laden.."I will follow him to the gates of Hell" and Gov. Romney looked Presidential and strong. I will be watching the next one (May 15) to see if the pack looks like it will change. E me your reactions and thoughts to the debate!

PS: I have not been to Reagan's Presidential Library yet, but it sure gave a spectacular backdrop to the first debate. It was great of Nancy Reagan to be present.

Enclosed please find photos of my daughter Genevieve holding her baby sister Cecilia.

Cecilia was born last Monday at 3:50 pm and came in at 9 pounds, eight ounces – and almost 20 inches long! Mom and baby are fine and are resting at home.

Enjoy the fact that with spring – another Cub Fan has made her way into the world!

Sen. Dan Rutherford served as Student Body President at Illinois State University a number of years ago.  He was recently visited by current Student Body President Dave Horstein and Vice President Kevin Martin along with members of the student Senate and Assembly.

Derrick Littlejohn has been a friend and supporter for years. It was great to spend some time with him recently at an event in Champaign.

I don’t know all the national anthems of the world, but I do know this: The only anthem of those I do know that ends with a question is ours, and may it be ever thus. Does that banner still wave ‘o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?’ Yes, it does, and we’re going to see that it continues to wave over that kind of a country.
