Dan's Diary

October 2005

Jeff and Margaret Diederich hosted an outstanding buffet at their home in Marion. The evening was elegant, entertaining and good fun (especially when Jeff cranked up Top Gun on the surround sound).

Wayne Baum opened his home for an evening gathering of the Who’s Who in politics & the business community of Peoria. The extra effort by Wayne and the encouragement from Hon. Earl Carter made the event successful!

Thousands of miles on the road, but a good bit in the air now too. It’s a big state and with the help of Ken Best, Ken Janik, Bob Cole & Jeff Diederich I am able to get around by plane and helicopter.

Parades are winding down for the season, but still a few left and spirits are high. I really do like being in parades. I always walk as many as I can. I remember as a little kid watching the Thresherman’s Reunion Parade in my hometown of Pontiac and Gov. Richard Ogilvie road in a convertible and his opponent Dan Walker walked the route. I was a young kid back then, but it made quite and impression on me….I walk all the parades!!

This has been a month filled with interesting news stories. Among these are articles concerning the workings of the Secretary of State’s Office. I thought you might find a few in particular ones on interest:

Springfield Journal Register  10-9-2005

Statehouse Insider

"Secretary of State Jesse White formally announced he is running for re-election. The question is, what's up with the tears?"

Daily Herald 10-8-2005

Now he'll shorten the lines?

"We respect Jesse White and much of the work he's done as secretary of state. The Daily Herald endorsed him for the office in 2002 and, who knows, might do so again next year.."

Marion Daily Republican     10-01-2005

Rutherford says customer service is important in Secretary of State's office

"State Senator Dan Rutherford, R-Pontiac, knows all about customer service. He is a vice president for ServiceMaster, a Fortune 500 company that relies on customer service."

The media has been very good to us since we announced for Secretary of State. TV, radio, and print are getting the message that a customer service oriented office is what we will have when I am sworn into office. TV from Peoria to Carbondale to Chicago to Rockford has been great!!

The campaign travel kept active: Lake, Kane & McHenry Counties to meet with Coordinators and map out strategy. Illinois is a big state with small towns and major cities, 102 counties in all. I am proud to say that I start off October having visited ALL 102 counties. The support is tremendous from all corners of the great state of Illinois!!

The Pontiac Bonneville kept on rolling, starting the month with 183,000 miles on her and gas was $2.95 in Lincolnshire.
