Dan Duffy is replacing Senator Bill Peterson in the 26th Senatorial
District. You can always tell a candidate is going to do well when his
mom is involved!
Denny and Marjo
Denny and Marjo, my cousins, were back in town this month all the way
from California. It was great to be able to spend time with them and my
aunts and uncles.
Below are some additional pictures from the reunion.
Building a shed
I was able to help my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew build a shed at
their timber earlier this month. It was a very hot day with temperatures
in the upper 90's! Never the less we got a lot done. Below are a few
pictures from the day.
ISU Homecoming 2007
I am a Redbird, graduated from Illinois
State University...well, a couple of years ago. Great school, great
fraternity, great friends, great chapter in my life!
I get to campus some throughout the year
because of official Senate business. This visit included the parade,
which was the official part of the day, and then the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity
alumni meeting. I am a member of the Zeta Class. After that we went to the House for
an afternoon cookout. It was good to see friends I haven't seen in a few
years!
Enjoy the photos (thanks Deb, for sending me
some you took) and I will post more when I get off the road from a few
days of travel!
I am
adamant about having a morning jog, every day. Well, I was recently
in Springfield and brought my jogging clothes, but forgot the sox.
Not to miss the run for lack of sox, I went ahead and used a pair
of casual sox.....I know I must have looked like a dork, but I did push them down as low to the
ankle as I could so they did not show.
Later
that morning I got a package of athletic sox.....I was ready for
the next morning
Smartest guy in the room
He's
a perfectly packaged overachiever with all the answers, but one question
remains: Who is the real Mitt Romney?
Chicago

Tim

Mitt Romney is the
earnest, overachieving school kid in the front row, his right arm thrust
high and fingers fluttering in the air, straining to get the attention of
the teacher. Mitt's got the answer. He always does.
Among all the Republican candidates for president, the chronically
striving Romney might be the smartest guy in the room. Armed with a law
degree and a master's of business administration from Harvard, he's the
well-prepped answer man on health care and immigration, and quick-draw
responder to the urgent events of the media moment.
I have been to the University of
Illinois campus twice this month, so far. Attended a reception with the
Central Illinois Builders and then at the home of University President
Joseph White. The receptions were before the football games.
Unfortunately I could not stay for either game, but Illinois is doing
very well!!

The Olympics saga: It doesn't take
a rocket scientist to figure out Mayor Daley is NOT the biggest
cheese needed to snare the 2016 Olympics!
• • Translation: It's gonna take
bigger names with bigger pressure to cinch the deal. Rio and Tokyo
and Madrid have got their national leaders involved in snagging the
2016 Summer Olympics.
• • The kicker: Republican
presidential contender Mitt Romney, who was CEO of the 2002
Salt Lake City Winter Games, already has weighed in and said he'd
work hard to get the Olympics to Chicago.
And he isn't even from Illinois!
Hi Dan,
Thanks for thinking of us at the Special Olympics. We did really
well: 7
Gold Medals, 12 Silver, 5 Bronze and one 4th Place. The coaches,
staff,
volunteers, parents and most importantly the kids, were very proud
to be a
part of this fantastic event.

Hastert leads
Romney delegate slate

Former
U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert heads a full slate of 57
candidates who intend to seek election as convention delegates
pledged to Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney in the
state’s Feb. 5 primary, the campaign said Tuesday.
It was great having Mitt Romney with us in Central
Illinois and in Chicago again. A special treat was that his wife Ann was
able to join us later in the day. They really are great people. I know he
would make an outstanding President and she would be a wonderful First
Lady. Check out the day!

enjoy them as much as we all enjoyed the day!

Jeff, thank you

I had the
opportunity this month to speak for the McLean County GOP Women. It is
always an honor to speak with friends close to home.
The
Question of Recalling a Governor
Legislation has been introduced to amend the state
Constitution to allow for Recall of an elected official, such as the
Governor.
If approved by the General Assembly and, subsequently,
the state's voters, the amendment would allow the electorate to Recall
statewide officeholders, legislators and judges.

Fees Swept
Government raising a Fee for a special
purpose on a specific constituency or user [i.e.: camping fees or nursing
home licensing fees] when it really doesn't need the money for that purpose
is bad enough, but when government then says there is "extra money" in those
specific accounts and takes some of it for general spending, that is wrong.
This has happened to scores of dedicated
funds during the Blagojevich Administration. To see a description and list
